Son of Thomas and Martha Haycock of 15 Grange View, Millhead, Carnforth. He enlisted in Warrington.
1911 Census shows that James was 22 years old and living at 15 Grange View with his parents Thomas (52) and Martha (51) and his siblings Nora (14) Thomas (12). His occupation was grocers assistant. He also had an older brother Richard who was 24 but not living at home on the day of the census.
The newspaper report states that he was killed in France, after three weeks at the front.
