Driver 121842 Royal Field Artillery 84th Small Arms Ammunition Company
Son of Robert and Grace Gardner. The 1911 Census shows that he has moved to Horton in Ribblesdale and is working as a farm labourer and is boarding with the farmer William Redmayne. Robert (65) and Grace (63) on the 1911 census are still living in Warton but have moved to Warton Top, all the children have left.
The 1901 census shows Grace as head born in Lytham, Lancashire with her sons who were all born in Warton John (23), Richard (21), William (12) and Joseph 9 living at Crag Foot. John and Richard were working in the quarry.
Joseph enlisted in Settle, Yorkshire.
His brother William was also killed in WWI in 1917
